About Becka's House
What is Becka's House?
Becka’s House is a neighborhood companion care home located in Plano Texas that provides permanent supported housing for young ladies with multiple disabilities.
What Inspired the Creation of Becka’s House?
Becka was born in 1997 with multiple complex medical conditions and developmental disabilities. Despite a challenging prognosis, her family’s mission was clear: to love and support her unconditionally. Through early intervention, special education, and the life-changing support of the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI), Becka flourished in a structured, nurturing environment where she was empowered to grow and belong.
When no post-TSBVI housing option could provide the same level of individualized care and community, her family chose to build one themselves. Becka’s House was born—a loving, purpose-driven home where women with disabilities live with dignity, support, and joy. What began as one family’s solution has grown into a model of possibility: a place not just to live, but to thrive.
What is Becka's Story?
Becka was born in 1997 with a diagnosis of intraventricular hemorrhage, which led to porencephaly, a rare neurological disorder characterized by cysts or cavities in the brain. Doctors explained that her brain hadn’t fully developed and that her prognosis was uncertain. Her family was simply told: take her home, love her, and care for her as you would any child.
So, they did exactly that.
As an infant and toddler, Becka experienced significant developmental delays. Over time, she was diagnosed with Optic Nerve Atrophy (leaving her legally blind), immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), and cerebral palsy affecting the left side of her body. Additional diagnoses followed, including autism, cortical visual impairment (CVI), speech impairment, auditory processing disorder, and a seizure disorder.
Despite these challenges, and with the support of her family, educators, therapists, and a community that believed in her, Becka graduated high school in 2015. That same year, she was accepted into the EXIT Program at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI), a life-changing opportunity in Austin where Becka lived in a dorm that helped her develop vital life skills, build meaningful relationships, and gain confidence in her supported independence.
Recognizing how much Becka had grown at TSBVI and the hard work she did to develop skills, her family knew she needed a supportive environment where she could continue to thrive, maintain the routines that helped her succeed, and preserve the friendships and sense of purpose she had found. But after an extensive search, they realized that such a place simply didn’t exist.
So, they created it.
In 2019, Becka’s House was founded. An intentional, loving home designed to support individuals with complex disabilities in living full, meaningful lives. For over six years, Becka has flourished, surrounded by her House Sisters and a devoted team of intervenors and caregivers known as Team Becka.
Each resident of Becka’s House has her own unique journey, but they all share a common thread: the belief that everyone deserves to live with dignity, purpose, and joy. At Becka’s House, that belief is lived out every single day.

What makes Becka's House successful?
While our goal is to provide permanent supported housing fully customized to an individual’s needs, it really begins with relationships. We build relationships first. It’s not just about brick and mortar. It’s about providing the “scaffolding” for abundant life, which includes rich relationships in a safe environment where each person is loved and valued. Our residents, referred to as House Sisters, are a necessary contributor in making Becka’s House a home. It means being a “family member” with a House Mom, House Sisters and dedicated caregivers.

What is provided for the House Sisters?
Independence in living with individualized support, abundant life, and rich relationships.
We focus on abilities and continuous improvement by introducing new experiences that help broaden skills and interests. As a contributing member of the House Family, participation in daily group activities fosters meaningful relationships and generates new abilities.
Whether it’s going on a community outing, helping with meal planning and preparations, or always having a positive word of affirmation for the other house sisters, each family member is cherished because of their unique talents and the pure joy they bring to one another.

What do you provide for the Extended Family?
Comfort and peace of mind in knowing that your loved one is surrounded by peers and a team of caregivers who love them as family.
They will be living in a safe Christian home with customized support to live independently, while fostering relationships to live abundantly. Our permanent supported solution brings relief in knowing that your wishes for your loved one will be carried out when you are no longer adequately capable or alive to do so.

How were you able to establish Becka’s House and find your House Families?
By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; and by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. - Proverbs 24:3-4
Naturally, need drove us while we let God orchestrate His divine plan and use us to do His work.
At the time Becka’s House was being established, the family didn’t know who Becka’s House Mom, caregivers/intervenors or House Sisters would be, but they put their trust in God to bring them forward. And did He deliver in the most amazing and surprising way!

What attracts dedicated caregivers to Becka's House?
At Becka’s House, we often get asked a beautiful question: What draws such dedicated, compassionate people to serve here? The answer is simple—and deeply spiritual.
It starts with faith. The kind of faith that believes every person is worthy of love, healing, and belonging. Many of our caregivers, intervenors, and mentors feel called to this work. They are drawn not by a paycheck, but by a powerful inner desire to serve—to be the hands and feet of grace in someone else’s story.
It also comes from a desire to be part of something greater. At Becka’s House, service isn’t a job—it’s a sacred journey. Each team member forms a unique bond with the House Sisters, walking alongside them in moments of rebuilding, resilience, and rediscovery. Our caregivers don’t just offer support—they offer presence. Compassion. Time. Trust.
And in return? They receive something extraordinary.
Our House Sisters—women reclaiming their stories and stepping into new life—radiate love, strength, joy, and a light that transforms those around them. Many of our team members speak of the mutual healing that happens here. They came to serve—but found their own lives enriched in ways they never expected by being a part of a community where hope is alive and miracles happen daily.
Each caregiver has a testimony. Stories of faith deepened, hearts opened, and purpose rediscovered. Becka’s House becomes not just a place of acceptance for our residents—but for everyone who walks through the door with open hands and a willing heart.

BJB Memorial Fund
The BJB Memorial Fund, established in 2019, is a tribute to the memory of Bonnie Jane Budahelyi. Her youngest granddaughter, Becka, was diagnosed at birth (January 18, 1997) with porencephaly, an extremely rare neurological disorder of the central nervous system. Due to her diagnosis, Becka has multiple disabilities, including cerebral palsy, autism and she is legally blind.
To help honor Bonnie’s love and admiration of Becka and all of God’s children living with and without disabilities, distributions from this fund will help develop, operate and maintain neighborhood homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area that provide supported permanent housing to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) due to the overwhelming need.
Currently, 100,000 adults with IDD living in the DFW metroplex have at least one challenge to living independently. There are beds in Medicaid Waiver Group Homes and Centers for only 3,000 adults in the state of Texas. This permanent housing solution brings peace to aging parents and grandparents.
